What’s up, guys! In this video, we’re going to be talking about
an overview of an automobile. So to start off it’s important to understand
how a single part of a car works in a large system to then grasp the concept of how a
car operates. So, to keep it very very simple, and fundamental
here are some terms to remember. Right here we have a part, and this is the
smallest removable item in a car that can’t be disassembled. For instance, this is a piston head, and a
piston head can’t be broken down any further, unless you wanted to melt it, of course. To the right of it, we have a component, a
component is referring to an electrical or an electronic part. The battery itself will be supplying all of
the electricity to the vehicle. To the bottom left here, we have an assembly. An assembly is a set of fitted parts designed
to complete a function. So for the engine, that’s to get the car going
and sometimes going very very fast.To the right of that we have the entire drivetrain,
so everything from the engine to the transmission, to the differential. All of it is working together, and working
together very very fluidly. Systems on a vehicle are the most crucial,
and important, and will make it that much easier to understand with these videos. So let’s start off with the overview of the
ten major systems of a car. These systems are not only make up a car but
also make up its ability to move and become animated. If one of these systems or if a couple of
these systems weren’t working properly, then the car would most likely not be running or
functioning properly. So to start off let’s start with number one,
the body and frame. The frame is a strong metal structure that
provides a mounting place for parts to be added to the vehicle. The body can be steel, aluminum, fiberglass,
plastic, or a composite skin that makes up the exterior of the car. Number two, the engine. The engine provides power to the vehicle it’s
made up of a metal block that holds all of the other engine parts together in an assembly
like we just talked about. The engine has pistons that move up and down
to combust a controlled explosion to propel a car into motion. Number three, cooling and lubricating systems. This ensures a consistent engine temperature,
it’s basically all around the car to keep it from overheating and in return, keeps the
car from damaging all of the enteral parts. Number four, the fuel system. This provides a combustible air-to-fuel mixture
to power the engine. There is a correct air-to-fuel ratio in your
car that keeps a correct measure to burn it efficently to get most out of the fuel that
you put in…Eh, sometimes that’s true. Number five, the exhaust and emission control. This reduces the noise and CO2 emitted by
the vehicle. It carries burned gas to the rear of the vehicle,
thus reducing the noise of it as well, while the emission control system reduces the amount
of CO2 produced by the engine. Number six, the steering, braking, and suspension
systems. This supports and controls the vehicle. The suspension system creates a smooth ride
by letting the vehicle’s tires take the impact of the road. the steering allows the driver to control
the vehicle direction and where it is going. Lastly, the braking system produces friction
to slow or stop the vehicle. Number seven, the drivetrain system. This transfers power from the engine to the
drive wheels. The turning force from the engine’s crankshaft
to the drive wheels is what it basically does. Drivetrain configurations can very depending
on the vehicle’s design. Number eight, electrical systems. This generates and distributes electricity
to electrical components all over the vehicle. It consists of smaller subsystems (smaller
circuits) such as the ignition system, the starting system, charging system, and the
lighting system. Number nine, the computer system. This monitors and controls various vehicle
systems, it uses electrical devices to monitor and control various systems including the
fuel, ignition, drivetrain, safety, and the security system as well. Last, but not least, number ten, accessory
and safety systems. It’s basically just for occupant’s comfort,
safety, security, and convenience. Common systems that you are probably well
aware of are air conditioning, sound systems, power seats, power windows, and rear window
defogger. Sorry, this is probably alot all at once,
but one we break these systems down it will make it way more easier to comprehend and
understand. These are the basics of an entire gasoline
automobile, other vechiles follow this trend, but with different variations to them. Such as the hybrids, deisel engines, and electric
cars just to name a few, which we will be getting into much later.
